December 15, 2014 Portugal
Ya, Sorry about the lack of letter last week: things were really complicated.
I’m so glad everyone’s farewells are going well. I know one of my high school friends who is leaving for his mission soon has been really stressed out about the whole mission thing (not specifically the farewell talk). Madi H. was already prepared before school was out. She’ll do great. Here in the Portugal Lisbon Mission, the sisters on average actually baptize more. I’m sure she will not be an exception.
In regards to Residence, or “Residência,” yes every missionary at certain intervals has to go down to Lisbon and sign these forms to stay in the country, otherwise you’ll be illegal.
I’m sure you guys understand this very well, but we are so lucky in the states to have strong stakes with great leaders everywhere you look. Here, faithful, worthy, able men of the priesthood are a lot harder to find. Elder Cook said we the missionaries are “Branch Builders.” Truly this is the truth. We are here to do our little part, so that the church can increase here.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t spent too much time in Preach My Gospel chapter 2, but now I will. Again, this study of Preach My Gospel on which you guys have embarked is really special, even if a certain little brother hates it haha!
I don’t know about any Christmas traditions that people do here as of yet, but I guess I will let you know here in a couple weeks. We already have an invite from an awesome member to spend the evening with on Christmas, or “Natal,” which relates to “birth.”
This week we actually had 2 divisions: one with the Zone Leaders (ZL’s) and the other with the Assistantes (AP’s). Normally, the assistantes only do divisions with the Zone leaders but I guess we are special! We were able to find (through contacts on the street) some really cool people who we hope will progresso. My computer won’t let me spell “progresso” correctly…..
Members and Miracles: On Sunday, we had worked hard to get 2 investigators to church, but our goal was 4. After the first block, 3 more showed up with a friend who was a member, but we’d never met any of them! All of them are from Setubal, but are here studying. With the help of the Branch President we were able to teach them the Restoration during the 2nd hour and it was amazing! After sacrament meeting, a simply incredible sister in the ward invited them all over for a Noite Familiar (Family night) in her house with us tonight! This was truly a miracle from the Lord and a perfect example of member missionary work. It was another testimony builder to me that the Lord is in control and this is his work. We just have to work hard and the Lord will take care of everything else.
Thank you for all of your faithful prayers and constant love! This week was a lot better. Love you all!!!
