ANSWERS to Questions:
1. I can’t believe your companion fell in the ocean!! Did his camera, shoes and suit survive?
Ya, he has Ecco’s for his shoes and Ecco’s are like indestructible so they survived. As far as his camera, we’ll have to wait and see. It’s currently sitting in a bowl of rice. He was in normal clothes so his suit is fine. And his mom’s right: he is crazy.
2. How did your baptism go?!
It went so well! L is so cool. Everything went super well at the baptism. We had a missionary from a nearby area come and do a musical number of “I know when I am baptized” and it was really good. His name is Elder F_ and he got a full ride BYU bassoon scholarship, not to mention a full ride academic….. Anyway, back to L: His dad was a little nervous and then his knee didn’t quite make it under so they said he had to do it again. Well, he didn’t really understand so he just said “ok” and dunked L again. They respectfully told him that he had to actually say the whole prayer again, and so on the third go, everything went well, hahahahaha!
3. It sounds like you have a lot of investigators. Any good stories this week?
Other than L getting baptized, we have a few other investigators with potential (I don’t know if I’d say a lot). But we were praying and fasting for this really elect family that we found and we were trying to figure out which member to bring so in the end we bring a member named J. When he met the husband they both thought they had seen each other from somewhere. Turns out that J lived right next door to S’s family MANY years ago (Even before he was introduced to the church)! So, they hit it off pretty well because of that so we were really happy. We were sad that they still didn’t accept our invitation to go to church, nor the baptism, but they’re they’ll get there for sure.
4. I noticed a withdrawal from your account this month. What did you get?
It was like $16ish. I actually bought a hair-cutting machine so I wouldn’t have to go get haircuts. It’s pretty ghetto but it does the job. In a 4 Elder house we’ve already saved quite a bit of money in haircuts with it so far.
5. When is the final transfer before the new mission President takes over?
The final transfer starts a week from today and then near the end of it, the mission will switch. So, in other words, a week from today I’ll know for sure if I’ll be in the Lisbon or Porto mission. Currently, I’m in the boundaries of the Porto mission, if you didn’t already know, and I’m pretty certain I’ll be staying here unless something crazy happens so we’ll all just have to wait and see!
Oh, and remember that American lady whose house I used to do Skype? Well she just loves the recipe book (from our family) and she asked me to write down some of my favorites. It was actually quite difficult. One, there are so many, and two I just used to eat the food, I didn’t usually know what it was called! I was able to come up with a few, including Hungarian Goulash, White bean chili, and Cafe Rio food. I would like to bring to your attention that the Pork Barbacoa next to the rest of the Cafe Rio doesn’t sound like the slow cooked pulled pork that I was expecting. Instead, it looked like ground pork and spices or something. Anyway, she was pretty happy about it all. Her husband actually went back for an internship in the US for a few months so she needs something to do for a while.
Hey, on Sunday, the district president came and spoke to us and said that Elder L. Tom Perry passed away? Is that true? It’s kind of sad when an apostle dies, but it’s very comforting to know that God is always preparing his leaders and servants and all of the leaders of the church are chosen by the spirit of prophesy.
So I was reading at the end of 2 Nephi this week in the last chapter and he just gets so direct in his speech. I love the verse in which he tells all who reads the Book of Mormon to believe it, but it they don’t believe it or in these words, at least believe in Christ, but it they believe in Christ, they’ll believe in these words because they are the words of Christ. And then he says that if they be not the words of Christ – to judge, because at the last day all people will stand at the tribunal of God and know that these really are they words of Christ. The Book of Mormon is true. That is all 🙂
I love you all so much.
